Inmate escapes while being escorted back from hospital

Authorities in Garland County are searching for an inmate who fled while being escorted from a hospital back to jail.

The Garland County sheriff's office says it happened about 10 p.m. Thursday as 41-year-old Lavelle Taylor was being escorted by a deputy from Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs back to the jail.

Taylor was handcuffed and wearing an orange Garland County prisoner jumpsuit. He's described as a black man who stands about 5-foot-10, weighs 250 pounds and has black hair and brown eyes.

Taylor was being held on charges of theft by receiving and two counts of failure to appear in circuit court, the sheriff's office said, adding that he isn't thought to be dangerous.

The ArkansasOnline Right2Know database shows Taylor was booked into jail Tuesday.
