Man pepper-sprayed, beaten with pole, robbed of $80

A Little Rock man was pepper-sprayed and beaten with a pole by three men who robbed him of cash Thursday, authorities said.

It happened about 12:30 p.m. as the 45-year-old victim was walking on West 12th Street at Lewis Street.

Little Rock police said the group approached the victim, demanded money and then began assaulting him when he refused.

The victim reported the men first punched him, then used pepper spray on him before hitting in with the pole. The victim handed over $80 from his wallet and the assailants fled, the report said.

The victim went to UAMS Medical Center for treatment of injuries, including a blow to the head from the pole that made it difficult to open his right eye, the report said.

Two of the robbers were described as black men in their 20s who stood about 5-foot-9 and weighed 150 pounds. The third was described as a man of unknown race who was also in his 20s.

No arrests have been made.
