Woman accused of fatally shooting mother in store parking lot

A Searcy woman is accused of fatally shooting her mother in a store parking lot early Friday morning.

Alexandria Williams, 33, was arrested after a chase and booked into the White County jail on a charge of first-degree murder, the Searcy Police Department said in a statement.

Police say they responded shortly after midnight to the Big Lots at 103 N. Poplar St., where witnesses reported the driver of a red Ford F-150 had shot someone on the lot before fleeing in the vehicle.

The shooting victim, 50-year-old Dina Darden of Searcy, was taken to the White County Medical Center, where she died.

Authorities quickly found the suspect vehicle and tried to pull it over, according to the police statement.

"The driver fled from the officer but was eventually stopped after a Trooper with the Arkansas State Police deployed spike strips" to deflate its tires, Searcy Police Department spokesman Cpl. Steve Hernandez wrote in the statement.

The driver was identified as Williams, who police say is Darden's daughter.

Darden worked at the Big Lots and had just gotten off work, police said, noting that the motive is not yet known.

Williams remained in jail later Friday morning with bail set at $500,000. A court date is set for Feb. 4.

The death marks the third homicide of the year for Searcy.
