29 counties to get U.S. disaster funds

Farmers in 29 Arkansas counties affected by flooding and drought conditions will be eligible for special federal funds, the governor’s office said last week.

Qualifying farmers will be eligible for federal aid, including emergency loans, according to a news release from the office of Gov. Mike Beebe.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack made the disaster declarations at Beebe’s request.

The counties are Arkansas, Ashley, Bradley, Calhoun,Chicot, Clark, Cleveland, Columbia, Dallas, Desha, Drew, Grant, Hempstead, Hot Spring, Jefferson, Lafayette, Lincoln, Little River, Lonoke, Miller, Monroe, Nevada, Ouachita, Phillips, Prairie, Pulaski and Union.

Additionally, a declaration providing flood-related aid in Mississippi includes three Arkansas counties: Crittenden, Lee and Phillips.

Farmers who think they may qualify for this federal aid can contact their local Farm Service Agency office, the governor’s office said.
