Group drops effort to recall Texarkana directors

TEXARKANA — A group called Miller County Patriots is dropping efforts to recall three members of the Texarkana, Ark., Board of Directors.

Group vice president Dwayne Hall says the effort to recall Mike Jones, Londell Williams and Laney Harris is being dropped because the estimated $15,000 to $20,000 for an election would harm the city's budget.

The Texarkana Gazette reports the city budget has $875,000 more in expenses than revenue and that city department heads have been asked to cut their budgets by 4 percent each.

The recall effort began after the three and Director Sue Johnson voted to rehire City Manager Harold Boldt. An effort to recall Johnson was dropped in November.

Boldt was rehired in September after resigning in March when he lost his temper with a resident during a board meeting.
