Boyfriend accused of battering infant

Four months after an infant was found battered, Little Rock police arrested the child’s mother’s boyfriend and charged him with first-degree battery.

Police arrested Shandale Woods, 35, after they found him Thursday night at a convenience store at 9525 Interstate 30.

According to arrest affidavits, Woods was identified as the man who was to baby-sit his girlfriend’s 11-month-old child Aug. 16.

When the child’s mother returned home, she found her son “tied up in his crib” and saw the boy had a black eye.

She took the child to Arkansas Children’s Hospital where doctors noted the child had suffered 17 fractures.

The infant’s 4-year-old sister told police she saw Woods strike him several times in the eye.

According to police, Woods pleaded guilty to a battery charge nearly 10 years ago when he broke the leg of his then-girlfriend’s 1-year-old child.

When he was arrested Thursday, police reported finding marijuana on Woods, and he was charged with misdemeanor possession in addition to the felony battery charge.

Woods remained at the Pulaski County jail Friday night where he was being held in lieu of a $500,000 bond.

Hit-and-run leaves 63-year-old critical

A 63-year-old Little Rock man remained in critical condition Friday afternoon, more than 24 hours after a hit-and-run early Thursday.

A motorist found Bob Thompson lying in Rodney Parham Road at the intersection of Markham Street about 6:15 a.m.

According to police, Thompson was unable to provide a statement, and because of his “blindness,” had no description of the vehicle that struck him.

The hit-and-run remains under investigation.

2 robbed of vehicles near LR liquor store

Police reported two carjackings in a little more than an hour outside the same Little Rock liquor store Thursday afternoon.

John Clay, 51, was at 4424 W. 12th St. near the Pic-Pac Liquor store about 1:55 p.m. when a man stepped up and pulled a .22-caliber revolver.

The robber took Clay’s 2005 white Ford F-150 pickup. Police found the truck an hour later outside a vacant house at 816 Adams St.

Police were called back to the 4400 block of West 12th Street about 3:18 p.m. for another carjacking.

Frederick Shelton, 55, told police he was at the store with a friend and the pair were approached by a man seeking a ride, which they agreed to do.

After a stop at the liquor store, the hitchhiker pulled a gun and ordered the pair toget out of the car, police said.

The robber took off with Shelton’s black Ford Explorer with his phone inside.

Police tracked the phone’s GPS to Asher Avenue and South Maple Street where they found Theolis Jones with Shelton’s cellphone.

Jones, 33, of 4415 W. 24th St., was charged with theft by receiving over possession of the phone.

Shelton’s robber is described as black, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 170 pounds. He was in his late teens or early 20s and wore black jeans, a red shirt and a black skullcap.

The man who took Clay’s truck is described as black, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 150 pounds. He was in his late teens or early 20s and wore a black hat, black shirt and black pants.

Pedestrian beaten, $80 taken by three

A Little Rock man told police he was jumped, beaten and pepper-sprayed by robbers early Wednesday.

Larry Jones, 45, was walking west along West 12th Street when three men approached and demanded money.

Jones told police he refused, reports said, and the three started to beat him. One attacker pepper-sprayed him and another hit him with a pole.

According to police, Jones handed over the $80 he had in his pocket, and the three fled.

Jones’ injuries were treated at UAMS Medical Center.Two women report holdup at LR hotel

Two women were attacked and robbed at gunpoint at a Little Rock hotel Thursday night, according to a police report.

Police responded shortly after 7:30 p.m. to the La Quinta Inn at 1010 Breckenridge Drive where Jessica Wood told officers she was in her room with two men when one of them pulled a gun and demanded money. Wood said she was struck in the head with the pistol when she refused to hand over money, according to the report.

Jessica Butcher was outside the room when she heard Wood screaming. Moments later, the second man walked outside toting a sawed-off shotgun and demanded Butcher’s money. She handed over $200, and the men fled.

Officers reported that Wood, 26, had a cut on her head. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.

One of the men, who was identified as “Trent,” is described as black, 6 feet 2 inches tall with braided hair and weighing 150 pounds. The other man was black, 5 feet 6 inches tall, 22 to 28 years old and weighing 130 pounds.

Craigslist sale ends in robbery, gunfire

A man was shot at Thursday afternoon in Little Rock after his iPhone 5 was stolen during a meeting arranged on Craigslist, according to a police report.

Justin Fiser, 33, had been trying to sell the phone on the website. He met with a supposed buyer about 1:50 p.m. in the 5800 block of West 10th Street, but the man snatched the phone and fled. Fiser pursued the man, who jumped into a nearby sport utility vehicle that began driving away, according to the report.

But Fiser stuck his hands inside the vehicle and was dragged about two blocks before falling away. The vehicle then stopped, and one of the three men inside got out and began hitting Fiser on the head. Fiser told police the man who stole his phone fired one shot in his direction when the SUV drove away.

Officers reported that Fiser had scratches on his hands and legs, but he declined medical treatment.

The three robbers were described as black, and two were about 6 feet tall. The getaway vehicle was a green and gold-colored Ford Explorer.

Boy tells police pal took phone; 3 held

Three people were arrested Thursday in a Little Rock armed robbery, according to a police report.

Michael Hill, 18, Pernetra Hill, 20, and Ocoriye Wallace, 18, were each charged with aggravated robbery and theft of property in the case, in which an iPhone 5 and cash were stolen at gunpoint. A 17-year-old boy told officers, according to a report, that he was trying to sell his phone at Tech Gods electronics shop at 11815 Mara Lynn Road.

The boy was in his vehicle outside the shop about 11:30 a.m. when Michael Hill and Pernetra Hill, armed with handguns, purportedly approached and demanded his possessions, the report said.

The two fled in a gold-colored Pontiac. The victim identified Michael Hill to police, saying he knows him from school and the two are friends, according to the report.

Police later located Michael Hill, Pernetra Hill and Wallace at an apartment in the 1600 block of North Shackleford Road. The police report notes that Wallace was present during the robbery. His purported involvement was unclear late Friday.

The relationship between Michael Hill and Pernetra Hill also was unclear.

The three were in the Pulaski County jail late Friday.
