FOOTBALL Anderson picks Early for staff

It appears Blake Anderson has made the first hire for his Arkansas State coaching staff.

Brian Early, who spent last season as a defensive quality control assistant at the University of Arkansas, posted Friday night on Twitter that he had been offered a job on Anderson’s staff, a day after the former North Carolina offensive coordinator was introduced as ASU’s coach.

“10 [months] ago Bret Bielema gave me an opportunity to chase a dream. Today [Anderson]offered me a job at Ark. State!” the message read.

Prior to arriving at Arkansas, Early spent four seasons as defensive coordinator at Fayetteville High School, helping the Bulldogs to Class 7A titles in 2011 and 2012. He also has coached at Central Arkansas, Minnesota State-Mankato, Arkansas-Monticello and West Memphis and Greenland high schools. He has primarily coached defense and special teams.

ASU has yet to announce any hirings. Anderson said Thursday he would consider members of the ASU existing staff.

“I will give them every courtesy,” Anderson said of the existing staff. “But, at the end of the day, it’s going to come down to who I think is going to represent you guys the best and give us the best chance to win.”
