HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES

Dragons cruise to Class 2A title

Junction City didn’t need a lastsecond comeback to defend its state championship. Instead, the Dragons did it with ridiculous ease.

Junior quarterback Randall Holyfield ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more scores in Junction City’s 60-0 victory over Des Arc in the Class 2A state championship game Saturday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

A crowd of 3,212 watched the Dragons (13-0) claim their fifth state championship in the past decade, stretch their winning streak to 27 games - the longest active mark in the state - and record the most lopsided victory in a state final since the modern playoff era began in 1968.

Junction City led 41-0 at halftime and totaled 497 yards on just 34 plays. Des Arc was limited to only 126 total yards.

Junction City junior tailback Jaqwis Dancy, the game’s MVP for the second consecutive year, rushed 14 times for 163 yards and 2 touchdowns. 10CStorey throws 6 TDs in Charleston’s rout

Junior quarterback Ty Storey completed 18 of 31 passes for 378 yards and 6 touchdowns as Charleston beat Glen Rose 42-19 in the Class 3A state championship game Saturday night at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock.

The Tigers (15-0) captured their second Class 3A title in three seasons and fourth state championship since 2005. The Beavers (12-2) lost in the state final for the second consecutive year.

Storey was named the game’s MVP after equaling a finals record for touchdown passes. He threw five in the first half, including the 100th of his career, to help Charleston lead 35-7 at halftime.

Storey threw three touchdown passes to junior wide receiver Taylor King, including an 18-yarder to give the Tigers a 42-7 lead and invoke the Arkansas Activities Association’s sportsmanship rule with 9:55 left in the third quarter. 11CState finals results
