Garland County escapee recaptured

A Garland County inmate who escaped while being escorted from a hospital back to jail has been recaptured, authorities said.

A spokesman for the Garland County sheriff's office said 41-year-old Lavelle Taylor was arrested without incident shortly after 9 a.m. Monday in the 300 block of Charteroak Street in Hot Springs. Investigators had received information he might be in the area.

Police say the escape happened about 10 p.m. Thursday as Taylor was being escorted by a deputy from Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs back to the jail.

Taylor, who was handcuffed and wearing an orange Garland County prisoner jumpsuit, was being held on charges of theft by receiving and two counts of failure to appear in circuit court, the sheriff's office said, adding that he wasn't thought to be dangerous.

The ArkansasOnline Right2Know database shows Taylor was originally booked into jail Tuesday.
