2 killed after car strikes trees in LR

Two women were killed after their car crashed and caught fire late Sunday, police said.

The 2010 white Nissan Maxima driven by Ruth Bryant was headed west along Chenal Parkway about 10:25 p.m. when it started to drift toward the centerline near the intersection of Chenal Club Boulevard, Little Rock police said.

Bryant, 39, of 8 Chalamont Court was accompanied by her sister, Susan Graves, 35, according to police, when she hit a tree in the median, spun,hit another tree and then continued until hitting a third tree head-on.

The final impact was severe enough to push the engine toward the passenger compartment, according to police reports. Investigators noted the car caught fire after the crash.

Bryant and Graves were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a police accident report.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but police indicated that the vehicle’s “speed was a factor.”
