New signs to promote Walnut Ridge tourism

WALNUT RIDGE — New signs are going up in northeast Arkansas to promote tourism in the Walnut Ridge area.

Four signs will be erected this spring on U.S. 67 south of Hoxie, on U.S. 412 by Portia, near the intersection of U.S. 412 and Arkansas 91 and on U.S. 67 north of Walnut Ridge. Businessman Charles Snapp said the signs will be shaped like an amplifier and a guitar to represent the area's rich musical heritage.

Walnut Ridge's Guitar Walk honors early rock 'n' roll musicians such as Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and others who played at clubs and honky-tonks along U.S. 67 from Newport to Pocahontas in the mid- to late 1950s.

The Jonesboro Sun reported that the signs will cost up to $20,000.
