Boy, 12, shot while aiding older brother

A 12-year-old boy was accidentally shot in the foot while helping his 18-year-old paraplegic brother into bed Monday evening, Little Rock police said.

The boy, who wasn’t identified, was being treated Monday night at Arkansas Children’s Hospital.

The older brother, William Wadlington, is a paraplegic because of a Christmas Day shooting a year ago, police said. As a result, he always keeps a 9mm semiautomatic pistol with him.

The gun was in his lap as his younger brother maneuvered him into the bed at 7:20 p.m. at their home on Wooddale Drive in southwest Little Rock. The gun then fell and discharged when Wadlington grabbed it, police said. Police said they don’t expect to file charges.
