VIDA DAVID BULLOCK of Little Rock, Ark. passed from thisearth at 11:36 on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013 at MD Anderson hospital in Houston, Texas from complications due to cancer.

Vida was born in Little Rock, Ark.on Feb. 22, 1953 to the late Dr. Neylon David M.D. and the late Gloria David. She was the older of two children. Vida is survived by her husband, Bob Bullock of Little Rock and her sister, Sandy David Miller and husband Larry Miller of Hot Springs.

Raised in Brinkley Arkansas she was a 1971 graduate and Majorette of Brinkley High School. Vida went on to graduate from UAMS college of Nursing with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and Nurse Practitioner. She specialized in Pediatrics starting in Neo Natal Intensive care and later specializing in clinical pediatric care where she valued the ability to work with the same families over a period of years. The majority of her later years, 1993 to 2012, were spent at Little Rock Children’s Clinic where she retired.

Vida was a unique individual who could light up a room when she entered. She had the ability to bring joy and laughter to those around her without even trying. Vida was a diehard Razorback whose earliest memory is of sitting on her daddy’s shoulders at a Razorback game. Her family raised Boxer dogs and she was never without a beloved Boxer in her home.

Vida was a loving and faithful wife. She and her husband traveled often and her love of life extended to all around her. Thebond between her and her sister Sandy was unbreakable. A day rarely went by when one of them was not calling the other. Their love was truly special.

NATHANIEL HUGHES SR., 67, of Mabelvale, formerly of Cotton Plant, died Thursday, Dec. 19 at the Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock. His wife, Cora; five sons; six daughters; five brothers; five sisters; 30 grandchildren; threegreat-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends survive him.

DALE WAYNE MAULDIN, 72, of Jacksonville, Ark. passed awayThursday, Dec. 19, 2013 at the Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin, Ga.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 28 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel at Griffin Leggett-RestHills, 7724 Landers Rd., North Little Rock, Ark., with Brother Paul Rice officiating. There will be a viewing two hours prior to the service. The family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 27 at the funeral home. Burial will be private.

Dale was born on Sept. 15, 1941 in North Little Rock. He was a United States Army Veteran serving his country in Vietnam as an Airborne Infantryman where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Purple Heart Medal w 1OLC, Combat Infantry Badge, and Parachutist Badge.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Survivors include a brother, Joe Mauldin, of North Little Rock; two sisters, Reba Lytle of Sherwood, Ark. and Helen Stricklin of North Little Rock, Ark.; three sons, Thomas W. Mauldin of Lakeland, Fla., Michael D. Mauldin and Lafayette S. Mauldin of Jesup, Ga.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

RITA MAY WALKER MCCLURE, age 67, of Little Rock, peacefullyleft us on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, with her family at her side. She was born Nov. 27, 1946 and grew up in Camden, Ark. and was a long-time resident of Hot Springs, thenLittle Rock. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Leslie and Inice Walker; sister, Sue Weaver, and brothers-inlaw, Robert Earl Smithpeters and George McNabb.

Rita graduated from UALR with a master’s degree in social work. She was a licensed clinical social worker at Community Counseling Services in Hot Springs before opening a private practice where she touched so many lives as a therapist. She was especially proud of her group therapy work with veterans. Later in her career, as a social worker at the HSC Medical Center, Rehab Unit, she was able to be a caring friend and advocate to patients in times of need.

Rita was progressive, open minded and ahead of her time in many ways. She fiercely loved her family and her friends and her positive attitude, courage and generosity were an inspiration to all that knew her. The world is truly a better place because of Rita May.

Rita is survived by her two daughters, Tish McClure and Kami McClure (Roger Dayan); grandchildren, Margot Dayan and Jonah Dayan; her longtime companion, Reece Stiles (who gave her many years of love, laughter and friendship); brothers, Mike Walker (Ann) and Tommy Walker (Linda); brother-in-law, Vernon Weaver (Sue, deceased); mother-in-law, Stella McClure and sisters-in-law, Barbara Monteith, Shirley Smithpeters and Laverne McNabb.

Today we celebrate the life of BERNARD HAMPTON SHARP, alsofondly known as “Bubba.” He was born in Vick (Bradley County), Ark., on Jan. 1, 1918 to the late Willie Vickers Sharp and William Claude Sharp.

After graduating from Little Rock High School in 1935 he began his early career in construction. After working for CCC and other companies in various Arkansas locations, he traveled to Panama, Central America, for work on construction projects. This was followed by work in Venezuela, Galapagos Islands and Brazil before returning to Panama for his last work on a hospital on Lake Gatun. After learning of the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the outbreak of World War II.

Bernard immediately enlisted in the Army Air Force at France Field, Panama and was sent to San Antonio, Texas to begin his military training. During the war he flew more than 67 missions, including being shot down behind enemy lines and spending a month avoiding enemy forces while he walked through mountainous terrain and across enemy lines to join his troops. After the official end of the war, he remained in Nuremberg, Germany for another six months with the Occupation Forces. He received several medals for his wartime service including two Purple Hearts, the Distinguished Flying Cross, USAA Air Medals, Silver Star and even a Presidential Citation for completion of one of the missions. He retired in 1950 as a Major.

On Oct. 15, 1945, while home on leave, he married the love of his life Doris Harrod. Together they shared a life of love, generosity, faithful service to God and their community, and caring for families for 57 years until her death in 2002.

In 1950 he, along with Roy L. Pruett, founded Capital Glass Company in Little Rock. He managed the business for 25 years until his retirement.

Bernard enjoyed living life to the fullest, traveling to 119 countries and capturing these adventures in photographic collections. His wife joined him in trips to 89 of those countries. He loved sharing their photos with friends, organizations and school. He was a member of South Highland Baptist Church for over 85 years where he taught a Men’s Bible Class for some 54 years. He also belonged to the Lions World Services for the Blind, and was the oldest member of Lakeside Country Club where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed painting in his free time.

Preceding Bernard in death was his beautiful wife of 57 years, Doris Harrod Sharp; three sisters, Marie Greenlee, Faye Pruett, Nancy Palmer and sisterin-law, Elaine Barlow. He is survived by two sisters, Marguerite Hadfield and Jean Page; sisterin-law, Jeanette Hilbish; brotherin-law, Marshall Harrod, as well as 23 nieces and nephews, plus their children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 in the Chapel of Roller-Chenal Funeral Home 13801 Chenal Parkway, Little Rock, Ark. (501) 224-8300, with Reverend Don Cooper officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013 at Union Hill Cemetery, Ingalls, Ark. MICHAEL RAY STALNAKER, 34, of Little Rock, Ark. passed awayon Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013. He was born Nov. 25, 1979 in Little Rock, Ark. to E. Ray Stalnaker and Teresa Ann McClellan Stalnaker.

He graduated from Mills High School in 1998and attended and played football for ASU in Jonesboro. He was also a member of Alpha Lambda Chi Fraternity. He was a member of East Union Missionary Baptist Church and member of Iron Springs Masonic Lodge No. 342. He was an avid Razorback and Dallas Cowboy fan.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Tammy Davis; grandparents, Howard and Mildred McClellan and Clark and Margie Stalnaker.

He is survived by his parents; five sisters, Joyce (Jack) French of Cabot, Debbie (Fred) McGinnis of San Antonio, Texas, Linda Young of Costa Rica, Karen (Joel) Ray of Raleigh, N.C., Cheryl Fulton of Maumelle; brother-in-law, Eddie Davis of Little Rock; and six nieces and nephews.

FREDERICK DEAN TAYLOR, 45, of Little Rock, died Dec. 24, 2013.

He graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and ECU where he received his MBA and played football. He was a South Central Regional President with Verizon Wireless.

He is survived by his wife, Misty Taylor; one son, Charlie Taylor and one daughter, Madison Dean Taylor, all of the home; his parents, Frederick Dean Taylor of Chesapeake, Va.; Susan Morris of Burgaw, N.C.; one brother, Hal Blake of Rocky Point, N.C.; and one sister, Andrea Blake of Burgaw, N.C.

WILLIE MAE TEMPLE passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2013to be with her Lord and Savior. She was born to William and Minnie Barbee on July 16, 1919.

BAUXITE - Barbara Crook Gray, 69, of Bauxite passed away at her home on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013. She was born in Rison, Ark., on Jan. 16, 1944. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tomps S. Gray; her son, Peter C. Gray; her parents, C.N. “Pete” Crook and Lois Pennington Crook; and her mother and father-in-law, C.E. Gray Jr. and Mary Louise Gray.

She is survived by her daughter, Amy Gray Keeland and her husband Phillip of Benton, and her son, Andy Gray of Little Rock; her grandchildren, Jordan Gray Keeland and Brooke Elizabeth Keeland of Benton, Anna Elizabeth Johnson of Farmington; sister-in-law, Susan Mary Gray of Birmingham, Ala.; brother-in-law, Logan B. Gray of Montgomery, Ala., and nephews, Robbie and Braxtol Gray. Also, very special and dear friends, Pat Bilbrey of Benton and Daniel and Pam Dodson and their sons of Bauxite.She also left behind her hairy children, Eric and Princess.

Barbara graduated from Rison High School and pursued her college education at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia. She was a high school English teacher and spent most of her career at McClellan High School, where she also taught mythology, until she retired in 2011. She loved to read, especially mysteries, enjoyed gardening, and had an artistic flair.

BENTON - Linda Sheridan, 72, of Benton passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at her home. She was born Sept. 17, 1941, in Benton to the late Alvin Walter and Maude Ball Raney.

GURDON - Clarence Haltom, 85, of Gurdon, Ark., died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 at Twin Rivers Health & Rehab.

Clarence was born Feb. 5, 1928 to Clarence Elba Haltom and Georgia Lou Malone in Okolona, Ark.

Clarence was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gurdon, Ark., retired from Gurdon Lumber, International Paper Company and Cabe Land Company.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Martha, of 50 years; two sisters, Jackie Stone and Joydell White.

HOT SPRINGS - Willie Aline Greening, age 91, of Hot Springs,formerly of Camden, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013 at Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs. Born in Fordyce, Ark., on Jan. 25, 1922 to the late Ruel and Ruth Groves McMan. She was currentlya member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Hot Springs and was a longtime member of Fairview United Methodist Church in Camden.

Mrs. Greening was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace Jenkins Greening; her sisters, Mary Kervin and Vera Frizzell and her brother Bill McMan. She is survived by two sons, Tommy Greening and wife, Sue of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Kenny Greening of Memphis, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Shane Greening of Janesville, Wis., and Stephanie Stratton of Benton, Ark., and five great-grandchildren.

JUDSONIA - Linda Nixon, age 75, went to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 23, 2013. She was born Dec. 10, 1938, in Bald Knob to the late Clenis (Buster) and Zelda Guthrie.

She was an active member of Judsonia Missionary Baptist Church. She was a homemaker who also had worked several years at the Bald Knob and Judsonia flower shops.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Wardell Nixon.

Linda is survived by her son, Darrell Nixon and wife Pam; two daughters, Debbie Nixon and Diane Nixon all of Judsonia; three grandchildren, April Powell and husband Brian, Kyle Nixon, Leslie Weeks and husband Jacob; two sisters, Ruth Hamilton and husband Jimmy, Jeanette Morehead and husband Jim; and a large extended family and many beloved friends.
