Light winter precipitation anticipated for Arkansas starting Saturday

A strong cold front that will enter Arkansas starting late Saturday night is expected to bring light winter precipitation, the National Weather Service in Little Rock said in a statement.

John Robinson, the service's warning coordination meteorologist, said there is a small possibility that northwest Arkansas may receive some freezing precipitation on Sunday morning, while other areas in the north may receive light snow or flurries starting Sunday night and Monday morning.

Some light snow or flurries may occur later in the area, starting Wednesday night into Thursday, he said.

There is a chance central Arkansas may experience light snow that would be less than an inch, Robinson said. However, he said "some totals a little over an inch are not out of the question."

"Temperatures will be below freezing, so if enough snow falls, there will be some slippery spots for drivers, especially on bridges and overpasses," Robinson said.

Southern areas may see light winter weather precipitation as well, including sleet and snow.
