Delivery driver hit runners, police say

An Arkansas Democrat-Gazette newspaper delivery worker hit four runners with his van while driving his route in west Little Rock on Saturday morning, Little Rock police said.

A Little Rock collision report marked the vehicle of James York, 67, as striking the runners in the southbound lane of Chenal Valley Drive as the vehicle traveled north, just after turning from Serian Circle. According to the report, the pedestrians told officers they were running in the bicycle lane against traffic.

Witnesses, including an emergency room doctor at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, responded to the accident but told police they did not see it.

The runners were taken to the UAMS Medical Center, but police said the injuries they sustained were not life-threatening.

Police said York was “not impaired.”

No citations had been issued as of Saturday afternoon, “pending further investigation and the medical conditions” of the runners, the report states.
