Memphis man charged with bilking VA for travel expenses

MEMPHIS — Prosecutors say a Memphis man has been charged with improperly billing the Veterans Affairs Medical Center more than $5,000 in mileage for trips to and from Mississippi that he never made.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs reimburses disabled veterans 41.5 cents per mile if they must travel to seek treatment.

Investigators said 57-year-old Jimmy Dale Wilson collected $5,674.94 by claiming to make about 73 trips from Tupelo, Miss., to Memphis between September 2010 and January 2011. Authorities said Wilson, who had been living at a Memphis homeless shelter at the time, never made the trips.

In a Friday news release, Shelby County District Attorney Amy Weirich said Wilson has been indicted on a charge of theft of more than $1,000.

It could not be determined whether Wilson has a lawyer.

In other news ... The Federal Government has been for the last 10 years not give full cost of living increase to veterans. It is estimated they lag 18 percent in increases for that time period.

In the last Bill that was past into law, wetbacks receive welfare while veterans got nothing.

Not all Veterans are dipped in gold with the sun shining out their ass. I'm a service connected disabled Vietnam Veteran, my father was a Korean war service connected disabled Vet and my youngest daughter is an Air Force service connected disabled Vet.
We aren't "Heroes" defending American peace. We are just some folks from Hot Springs who got injured on the job that we chose to do. We got/get a little compensation from our employer and we go on with our lives.
There will always be people that deserve some help and there will always be people trying to get over on the system. The fact that they once wore a uniform is irrelevent.

3 out of 3 "service connected disabled" - looks like 3 that are milking the system. What is so disabled? Your brain?
