2 killed in crashes on state highways

A pair of crashes Monday left two Arkansans dead and two others injured, according to fatal crash reports from the Arkansas State Police.

At 8:40 a.m., Kevin Bailey, 46, was headed north on U.S. 63 just outside of Slovak in Prairie County when his 1996 Ford F-150 truck crossed the center line and hit a southbound 2009 Ford Mustang head on.

According to state police, Bailey, of 265 Almyra Airport Road in Almyra, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Mustang, Shawn Bateman, 42, of 911 Raper Road in Hazen, was injured and taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.

At about 1 p.m., Ricky Smith, 39, of 14507 U.S. 270 in Poyen, was driving west on U.S. 270 just outside of Poyen when he lost control of his vehicle and went off the road, striking a tree.

His passenger, Danielle Smith, 39, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Ricky Smith was injured and taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.
