— Law officers in Batesville say a retired long-time area businessman has been found dead at his home.

Independence County Sheriff Steve Jeffery told reporters that the body of 83-year-old H.D. Bailey was found on the back porch of his home Thursday by a neighbor who was checking on him. Authorities say Bailey was last seen alive on Wednesday.

Detectives declined to say if foul play is suspected. The body was sent to the state medical examiner's for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Bailey was the former owner of the Bailey Ford auto dealership and of a car rental company in Batesville.
