SEARCY Phillip Phillips, winner of the 11th season of Fox’s American Idol, will entertain students and members of the Searcy community with a concert at Harding University on Monday.
Phillips’ first single, “Home,” debuted in May 2012, reaching No. 1 on the iTunes charts and staying in the top five for eight weeks.
The song was also featured in the 2012 London Olympics. Phillips will perform at 8 p.m. in Benson Auditorium at Harding. The Fable and the Fury, a local band from Searcy, will open for Phillips. Doors will open for the event at 7 p.m.
Logan Light, director of campus life for Harding University, said part of his job is trying to find concerts and shows that students will enjoy. Light said Phillips first album, The World From the Side of the Moon, was released in November.
“I thought [Phillips’ concert] would be a great idea,” Light said.
Tickets went on sale Jan. 22, and all of them sold that day.
“The response has been overwhelming,” Light said.
With the huge response in ticket sales, Light said he had to relocate the concert from the Administration Auditorium to Benson Auditorium, which opened up 1,000 more seats for the concert.
“He’s a great artist,” Light said. “I’m looking forward to seeing him perform.”
Tickets are $20 and are available at www.hardingCAB.com.
