1/29/13 Arkansas Democrat-Gazette/STEPHEN B. THORNTON Gov. Mike Beebe, left, and Big River Steel CEO John Correnti, right, talk Tuesday morning at the State Capitol during the announcement of the $1.1 billion Big River Steel plant to be built in Osceola. The "superproject" which could begin construction as early as August, will create 525 high paying jobs.

Gov. Mike Beebe will appear before the Arkansas Senate at 1:30 p.m. today to answer questions about a proposed new steel mill.

The Senate will be meeting as a “committee of the whole,” which is less formal than a typical Senate session.

Arkansas Economic Development Commission Director Grant Tennille is also set to appear.

The governor also will also appear for a similar session in the House of Representatives at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Beebe helped unveil plans for the Big River Steel Project last week; the huge undertaking is dependent on $125 million in state financing.

The governor is urging lawmakers to sign off on state aid for project.

The $1.1 billion plant, which is planned for Mississippi County, would create 525 jobs once it is operational.

I wish I could be there! Ain'tNobody, you are gullible if you don't think that kind of pollution and track record is extremely serious. Maybe you're just a NIMBY. You don't care what people do to the earth as long as it isn't in your neighborhood. The earth is more interconnected than that. Read a little, please.

I wish that I could have been there for the song and dance. When you make a deal with the devil, expect to get burned. I hope that there are some people in the legislature with the brains and the integrity to try to stop this funding of billionaires who pollute. If it is such a good deal, the billionaires should fund it themselves.
