Detour necessary after accident on I-40 requires repairs

— An accident on Interstate 40 will require a detour as maintenance crews work to repair the damage.

According to a release from the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, a tractor trailer westbound on I-40 near Hazen ran off the road about 11:15 p.m. Sunday night and is stuck in water alongside the White River.

While the truck is expected to be removed Tuesday, crews will be making repairs near the White River Bridge at mile-marker 201. Those repairs will include the installation of a new guardrail, which was damaged in the accident.

The detour will begin at 7 a.m. Tuesday and is expected to last about three hours, with motorists being directed to Highway 70 at the 202 mile marker, officials said.

Department officials urge those traveling in the area to use an alternate route.
