House to take up 2 abortion restrictions

— The Arkansas House is considering legislation that would ban abortions at the 20th week of a pregnancy and a proposal to ban the procedure from being covered in the insurance exchange created under the federal health-care law.

The House on Monday planned to vote on the new abortion restrictions as the Legislature convenes for the fourth week of this year’s session.

They’re among several new abortion restrictions being considered now that Republicans control the House and Senate.

The House planned to vote on a bill that would ban abortions at 20 weeks of pregnancy based on the disputed notion that a fetus is capable of feeling pain at that point.

It also planned to vote on legislation that would ban insurers in the health-insurance exchange from covering abortions.
