McDaniel: Concerns about six-weeks-along abortion ban

By The Associated Press

This article was published February 5, 2013 at 12:34 p.m.

— Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says he’s talked with Arkansas legislative leaders about constitutional concerns he has with a proposal to ban abortions as early as six weeks into a pregnancy.

But, he says, he’s not taking a public position on whether his office could credibly defend the measure in court if it passes.

McDaniel told reporters Tuesday that he has concerns about the proposal to ban most abortions if a fetal heartbeat is detected. The Senate last week approved the legislation, and it’s now pending before a House committee.

McDaniel declined to detail the concerns he has and said he’s sharing them privately with the sponsor and legislative leaders.

Gov. Mike Beebe has also said he has concerns about the bill, but has not said whether he opposes it.

My whole issue with this article is WHY is McDaniel still allowed to make ANY decisions on the behalf of the state???? He should be FIRED already. Want to know what is wrong with Arkansas - or - society as a whole?? NO ONE has any accountability anymore.

LSS......says let's get the sex police to start patrolling the halls of our legislature, we would not want somethig as unconstitutional as a sexual affair going on in our government. He believes this is grounds for empeachment and firing. Nothing gets the southern coservative fired up as sex scandel, not drugs, not mass murder, not kidnapping, except gun control maybe.

OR abortion rights, Bill..!!!
As to LSS's question: the Attorney General is responsible for pointing out to the IDIOT who wrote this legislation that it violates a protection granted by the Constitution as decided in Roe v Wade.. The AG is obligated to point this out but is trying do it in a way that won't totally embarrass the Republican side of the legislature who think they can ignore the U.S. Constitution as they pander to the extreme Right..!!!
I say "Go ahead....embarrass them..!!!!!!! They deserve it..!!!!!!"

McDaniels is only trying to warn, the thinking, people of AR that if this law has to be defended in court. Against people who FOLLOW the law, and not just those who react on their own personal beliefs as to how they think the law should be, how much $$$$ it will cost the rest of us taxpayers who don't want to invade to force our religious beliefs into the PRIVATE LIVES of other Arkansans or Americans.....#BigBucksForThe Lawyers
