Cinema and cittern

It’s a melodic weekend for Little Rock, according to Thursday’s Arkansas Weekend section.

The Arkansas Symphony and its audiences will spend “A Night at the Movies” — part of the orchestra’s Acxiom Pops Live! series — at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday at Robinson Center Music Hall, West Markham Street and Broadway, Little Rock. Philip Mann will conduct music from Captain Blood , Pirates of the Caribbean , The Godfather , Mary Poppins , Chariots of Fire , Gladiator , Star Wars and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone .

And early music titans The Baltimore Consort — Mary Anne Ballard, viols, rebec; Mark Cudek, cittern, viols, Renaissance guitar; Larry Lipkis, viols, recorder; Ronn McFarlane, lute; Mindy Rosenfeld, flute, recorder, whistle, crumhorn and early harp; and guest artist Danielle Svonavec, soprano — will give a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Christ Episcopal Church, 509 Scott St. (at Capitol Avenue), Little Rock.
