From cotton to steel

Gov. Mike Beebe announced last week that a company known as Big River Steel hopes to build a $1 billion steel mill near Osceola. It was welcome news in an area that has been losing population for 60 years. Mississippi County already is the second-largest steelproducing county in the country, behind only Allegheny County in Pennsylvania, and the new plant will add to the critical mass that exists there.
