Man who vanished after argument now home safe

A 53-year-old man who disappeared after a Monday argument with his daughter has returned home safely, the Garland County sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

Hershel Winningham, who had last been seen walking on Arkansas 290 on Monday, was being sought by deputies who were concerned for his well-being. About two weeks before his disappearance, Winningham suffered head injuries in a car accident that have left him with diminished capacities, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies were called Monday to an argument involving Winningham and his daughter in the 1700 block of Arkansas 290, deputies said. Winningham became angry, left the house and had last been seen walking into a field heading north toward the Andrew Hulsey Fish Hatchery, at 350 Fish Hatchery Road in Hot Springs. Deputies used launched a search, which included use of the mounted patrol.

“Winningham has returned home and is OK,” Garland County Lt. James Martin said in an e-mailed statement Wednesday.
