— Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Arkansas this weekend, the National Weather Service said Friday.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service, said the system will move into western Arkansas late Saturday afternoon, but the greatest effect from the storm will be Saturday night and into Sunday.

Most of the severe weather is expected to miss Arkansas to the south, but Robinson said the southern third of the state could see isolated severe storms Sunday afternoon.

Rainfall south of a line from Mena to West Memphis is expected to be 1 1/4 to 2 1/2 inches. Some areas could see more rainfall, especially in southeast Arkansas, Robinson said.

Rainfall in other areas of the state is estimated to range from 1/2 inch to 1 inch.
