Two killed after car veers off road, hits trees

LITTLE ROCK — A man and a woman were killed Thursday, after their sport utility vehicle ran off a Camden road and hit multiple trees.
Arkansas State Police say it happened shortly before noon as 29-year-old Stephens resident James M. Bevins was driving a 2011 Nissan Armada south on Arkansas 79.
According to a preliminary report, the Armada veered off the highway and struck several trees. Police say the road was dry and weather clear at the time.
Bevins and a passenger, identified as 24-year-old Shawna M. Bevins, were dead at the scene.
The two fatalities raise the total so far this year on Arkansas roads to 42, according to preliminary figures.

At this rate, 393 people will lose their lives on the roads this year. Last year, the death toll was 551. Unfortunately, I suspect the numbers will get worse in the summer time, as they usually do.
