Rain, thunderstorms to enter state today

— Rain and thunderstorms will enter Arkansas today, increasing into the night and Sunday, the National Weather Service said Saturday.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service, said a few severe thunderstorms are possible Sunday afternoon, primarily southeast of a line from Texarkana to West Memphis. Robinson said damaging winds and large hail are the most likely forms of severe weather, although an isolated tornado, especially in southeast Arkansas, cannot be ruled out.

The system is expected to move out of the state around 6 p.m. Sunday.

Rainfall amounts are expected to be 3/4 to 1 1/2 inches southeast of a line from Texarkana to Paragould. Some places in that area could see totals closer to 2 inches of rainfall. Rain totals elsewhere in the state is expected to be 1/4 to 3/4 inch.
