A tornado watch is in effect for parts of southern Arkansas as a system moves through the state, the National Weather Service said Sunday.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist for the weather service, said a tornado watch is in effect for Union, Ashley and Chicot Counties until 2 p.m.

Robinson said snow is possible for Arkansas early this week with the best chance for winter weather coming Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning. However, Robinson said the northwest part of the state could see snow on Tuesday afternoon.

Indications show the best chance for accumulation is north of a line form Fort Smith to Greers Ferry Lake to Harrisburg. The Ouachita Mountain region is also expected to see accumulation at this point.

Accumulation estimates are tentative at this point, Robinson said, but northwest Arkansas could see 1 to 4 inches of snow. All other regions of the state are expected to receive 1 inch or less, according to current predictions.
