Man with knife arrested after running from officer, report says

— A man who was in possession of a steak knife was arrested Monday after he ran from an officer trying to arrest him on a warrant, police records show.

Frank Willie Ford Jr., 47, is facing preliminary charges of fleeing, carrying a weapon and resisting arrest.

According to a North Little Rock Police Department report, officers about 3:15 p.m. Monday observed a suspicious man later identified as Ford on the grounds of Eastern Star Baptist Church, 2700 E. Broadway St.

When officers moved to arrest Ford on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant, he ran, the report said. An officer gave chase for about 50 yards before attempting to strike Ford's leg with a baton.

Police say Ford fell at that point and the baton ended up hitting Ford on the head. Ford continued to struggle until the officer pulled out pepper spray and threatened to use it, the report said. He was then taken into custody.

A search of Ford's person after the arrest turned up the "medium-sized" steak knife in his jacket, the report said.

Ford was treated and released from Baptist Health Medical Center in North Little Rock before being booked into the Pulaski County jail.
