Senator delays vote on drug-testing bill

By The Associated Press

This article was published February 13, 2013 at 12:20 p.m.

— A vote on legislation requiring random drug testing for unemployment recipients in Arkansas is being delayed over questions about how much it would cost the state.

Republican Sen. Jeremy Hutchinson of Benton agreed Wednesday to pull down his proposal while the Department of Workforce Services studies the cost of drug testing. Members of the Senate Public Health Committee asked for more details on the estimated costs.

Hutchinson's proposal would require unemployment applicants and recipients to consent to random drug testing. His proposal would leave it up to Workforce Services to decide how to conduct the random testing. The head of that department said he did not know how much the program would cost but said he would prepare a fiscal impact statement by next week.

Somebody always has to delay a good thing and a step in the right direction. Expand this to ALL entitlement spending and it would save the state millions.

Random? How about ALL? Random leads to 'selection', which leads to corruption by the inside people for just a few bucks.. If you want FREE STUFF, pee in the cup! IF you fail, you pay... if you pass, you can get your FREE STUFF until the next period comes up... then you get to do it again... ! No matter the cost of the test, there's no doubt this will save the outlay of $$$$.

Jimbob47..LondonHawg......ask Florida how successful it was there for people on welfare, and the cost/savings ratio? How many tested postive for drugs--2%. 96% proved to be drug free, these percentages are better than the national average.

After these teabagging nutjobs get through enacting all these laws that are clearly unconstitutional and will cost the state millions trying to prevent someone from getting $128 per week in unemployment and then there is the added admin cost to do the paper work to document this "pee in the cup law", What next?
I know this is hard for the small-minded people who truly believe that everybody who recieves the earned benefit of unemployement insurance is on drugs or want to struggle to make ends meet with meger means. Why does it escape their minds that you acually have to qualify for these benefits by working first, then loosing your job, through NO fault of your own, to be eligible to get them. Hutchinson, just like most of the other reactionary dogooders are poised and positioned to ruin this state.
The question now is, since they are now the majority party, how will they then blame the Dems?
God, save us from those who use Your Name to promote their political agenda...
