Turner on target for Texas A&M

— Elston Turner had 37 points, including a careerhigh seven three-pointers, to give Texas A&M a 69-67 victory over Mississippi on Wednesday night.

Derrick Millinghaus made a free throw before the Rebels got the ball back after a shot clock violation. Millinghaus hit a layup with 44 seconds left to cut A&M’s lead to 67-65.

Turner then hit a jump shot from the corner with 16 seconds left to extend the lead.

Millinghaus made two more free throws with 10 seconds remaining, and the Rebels (18-6, 7-4 SEC) had to foul three consecutive times to get into the bonus. Turner missed his free throw with 5 seconds left, but Millinghaus missed a shot at the buzzer to give A&M (15-9, 5-6) the victory.

Mississippi has dropped four of its past five games after opening SEC play 6-0.

MISSOURI 78, MISSISSIPPI STATE 36

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Keion Bell scored 24 points and Jabari Brown added 20 as Missouri easily defeated Mississippi State.

Missouri (18-6, 7-4) jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the opening minutes and led 34-10 by halftime. It took Mississippi State (7-16, 2-9) more than nine minutes to score its first basket - a three-pointer by Colin Borchert - but by that time the game was basically finished.

Missouri won its first road game of the season. Mississippi State’s losing streak has reached nine games and spanned more than a month.

Missouri led by as many as 44 points in the second half. The Tigers shot 31 of 58 (53.4 percent) from the field.

Trivante Bloodman led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

TENNESSEE 58, VANDERBILT 46

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jarnell Stokes scored 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Tennessee to a victory over in-state rival Vanderbilt.

Jordan McRae had 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Volunteers (13-10, 5-7) won their third in a row over the Commodores to match their longest winning streak in the series in nine years.

Tennessee led by as many as 16 and swatted away a late rally by Vanderbilt (9-14, 3-8), which was swept in the season series for the sixth time in 13 years.

After a three-pointer by Kyle Fuller less than 10 minutes in, Tennessee stormed in front thanks to 53.3 percent shooting (16 of 30) in the first half. McRae responded on the next possession with a running jumper off the backboard and the Vols surged ahead.
