LITTLE ROCK Authorities say they’ve identified the remains of an east Arkansas man missing since 2001 using DNA samples taken from his family members last year at an event in Little Rock.
Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel’s office said Friday that authorities determined that remains discovered in Memphis in 2011 are those of Tommy Lee Newingham of Earle.
Newingham was reported missing in 2001, the same year his vehicle was found in Memphis.
The attorney general’s office says Newingham’s remains were identified through a national DNA database after his family and dozens of others provided samples to Arkansas’ crime laboratory last year at a missing person’s day for adults.
