Comets roll past Cougars

— Mills forced 25 turnovers and pulled away from Helena-West Helena Central early and cruised to a 79-62 5A-Central victory in Little Rock on Friday night.

Kaylon Tappin led the Comets (14-9, 8-4) with 27 points, while Shaquon Fletcher added 20 and Devin Campbell 12.

Anthony Lewis scored 24 points to lead Helena-West Helena (5-11, 2-9).

Helena-West Helena took its only lead at 7-6 with 5:53 to go in the first quarter. But the Comets scored the next 15 points to take a 21-7 lead before Rickey Beckwood scored for the Cougars with 2:22 to go in the first quarter. By the end of the first quarter, Mills led 26-15.

The teams traded baskets for most of the second quarter, and the Comets led 45-32 at halftime.

Mills extended its lead to 61-45 at the end of the third quarter and took its biggest lead with 2:11 left, 75-53, when Tappin completed a three-point play.
