LITTLE ROCK Police in Benton are looking for two men who robbed the Taco Bueno off Interstate 30 at gunpoint Monday night.
The agency said in a news release officers were called to the fast-food restaurant at 20742 Interstate 30 about 9:30 p.m. after two men entered the business, displayed a pistol and demanded cash.
The robbers fled in a small dark-colored passenger car after getting an undisclosed amount of money, police said.
The robbers are described as black men who wore blue-and-white flannel shirts with hoods, jeans, tennis shoes and bandannas over their faces.

Two to the chest, one to the head. We can debate all we want about the societal "causes" of thuggish deeds and all the do-gooder ideas to stop bad behavior and how the best thing that could happen to crime and punishment in America would be to do away with the ACLU. And we can agree some of the do-gooder's ideas will actually work to a certain degree. But today and in the moment, there is but one solution. Two to the chest, one to the head. Dead bad guys commit no crimes.

There are twice as many people in Maryland but 3 times as many murders than Arkansas. I guess if you live in your little part of the world where that crime does not affect you railing about the crime in your former state is easy. Where there is less crime there is more money and better education; that is a fact.

My personal secretary of 13 years is black. Her husband is black also and is a professional in the HVAC business. They both have keys to my house and are nice enough to watch over things when I travel. I also have many very good black people that I am personal friends with, within my business. My granddaughter's best girl friend is black and hangs out at my house!
The problem with you is that you are too ignorant to see the difference between GOOD black people and black THUGS! The REALITY is that the large percentage of these robberies ARE committed by black males! Why do you argue this point? Are you black or married/dating a black male THUG? Even the GOOD black people agree with what is REAL FACTS. You let your motor mouth and weak brain overload yourself!!

Harley,
Please do not call the ladies who post here "stupid". Lady Violet Crawley (Maggie Smith character on Downton Abbey), said "Vulgarity is no substitute for wit." I would add that common insults are not either.
You are right about the crime stats for the whole states. Apparently, outside of Little Rock, the crime rates for Arkansas are pretty low. While my county has low crime rates, much of the rest of the state has high crime. Apparently, while those who are poorly educated are more likely to commit crimes, so are those in urban areas. I guess well educated country people are the least likely criminals.

I do not live in Little Rock. There is some crime in the city near me, but not anywhere near as much or as blatant as in Little Rock, despite having one of the state's larger black populations. There must be something in the water in Little Rock! And that something must include apathy. If the crime here were as bad and as blatant as in LR, the city council meetings would be standing room only. People would demand to know what their city government was going to do to bring the situation under control.
Staying home cuddling a gun and ranting about black people doesn't seem to have much effect. Neighborhoods working together with the police department should be tried.

It is interesting that on the abortion issue pro-choice groups and the KKK are aligned since abortion kills unborn back babies at a rate 7 times greater than unborn white babies. You wonder how my black friends and my black secretary and her black husband would feel if they knew what I posted on this site. Let me first say, in my earlier post I said that the good blacks agree with what I say about the bad blacks. What didn't you understand and how do you think I know that they feel that way? BECAUSE I don't say anything about these black males that are committing all of these crimes on this post that I haven't said to my black friends!! Now contrary to what you said they must feel about what I say, THEY are embarrassed that these thugs cause others to put them, my friends, that are good, honest, hard working, christian people, in the same category just because they happen to be black also!!! Can't you understand that? You don't see things as they are, you see things as you want them to be. You are completely backwards in your thinking! "Mama said stupid is as stupid does", this quote from Forrest Gump fits you like a glove. Now why do you question my manners when it is not bad manners to tell the truth?
You didn't answer my question about your race or if you are married/dating a black male thug! Did I hit it?

Harley,
Maryland once again had the highest passing rates in the country on the AP exams, which is one of the reasons we have one of the highest per capita incomes. The crime is concentrated in drug infested Baltimore and illegal immigrant areas of Silver Spring etc. The highly educated areas of Montgomery County and Howard County have among the highest levels of education and per capita income in the country and have little crime. There is a distinct correlation between education and income and education and lack of criminal behavior. While much of the rural communities of Arkansas have little crime, Little Rock has become the wild west. The community is in much need of police crackdowns, social services, better schools and youth recreation. The Little Rock of my youth was a great place to live. It is becoming a cesspool of criminal activity and vigilantism.

Harley,
To look at statistics on a county by county basis, go to the site countyhealthratingsdotorg. Pulaski County has 1,155 incidents of violent crime per 100,000 people. Montgomery County, MD has 233 incidents of violent crime per 100,000. So, I am not imagining that there is less crime here. (I know Baltimore an hour away is awful. They also have problems with education.) While it is true that a doctor may shoot his wife etc., there is a correlation between education and violent crime.

Perhaps our elected officials and state attorney's will read the posts and take action. I think our crime rate is high becuase our punishment is light. Otherwise, the penalty would not be worth the crime. In prison, if they go there, three meals a day, hang with friends, watch TV, get in shape, etc..... How about chain gangs, hard labor, etc. To me, criminals lose their rights when they commit crimes.

Kids who live with decent people, go to good schools, and have access to quality recreational activities, are much less likely to commit crimes. As Mark Twain said in 1900, "Every time you stop a school, you will have to build a jail. What you gain at one end you lose at the other. It's like feeding a dog on his own tail. It won't fatten the dog." If the social workers do not take kids away from neglectful parents, if truancy officers do not keep the kids in schools, if law enforcement does not crack down on drugs, and if the community does not provide quality schools and recreational activities for its youth, you have a high crime rate. Little Rock is inhabited by some of the wealthiest people in the nation. The governor, mayor, school board etc. should go to them and ask for help. I am sure that they would be happy to help pay for a decent bridge if they had some naming rights. I have no problem with the Jackson T. Stephens Bridge, the Winthrop Paul Rockefeller Youth Center, Dillard High School etc. The politicians just seem to be cashing their paychecks and not earning their keep.

We've become a nation of wussies . If we enforced harsher punishments for those who commit crimes, we wouldn't have to waste money on feel-good prevention programs, unnecessary "youth centers" etc. Take these kids on a day trips to Tucker. Show them what we do to those who break the law. But before we do, let's make prison a punishment, not a social club. Paroles? Never! As to Little Rock, we have a school board spending our tax money on lawyers to prevent Charter schools, rather than trying to improve the quality of education. We have liberals in the leg who think everyone should have a college education, and that is the "secret to our success" when we can't get over the 25% remedial rate for those who think they deserve to attend. In other words, we can't educate some of these dummies today, so let's pawn the off on our colleges. It's no wonder college costs are skyrocketing. Meanwhile, back to the Taco caper: Someone should have been carrying and using...we could have two less "lottery scholarships" to finance.

Someone said there was a need to talk real solutions to the violent crime problem in America, and I agree. The first and best step is to vote Republican for conservative candidates who will be tough on crime, promote self-reliance and personal accountability over government handouts, refuse to engage in class warfare pitting American against American, suppport 2nd Amendment rights for law-abiding citizens to defend themselves, and will work to protect unborn children as opposed to supporting abortion on demand that de-values human life. Sadly, many people refrain from honest debate from fear of being tagged with such labels. Black males under the age of 30 are literally 20 times more likely to commit a violent crime than white males in the same demographic. Does stating this fact make me a racist? In fact I advocate for the legality of abortion so we don't end up as a gestapo nation that holds grand jury inquisitions when a woman miscarries, where police search women's medicine cabinets for morning after pills, and doctors serve prison terms for practicing medicine. As for Republicans being better on crime. What I see generally, is Republicans want lower taxes and therefore poorer schools, more unwanted children born but not cared for, and therefore, more young criminals that will cause some misanthropic Republicans to write things like, "two to the chest and one to the head" of teen thieves.

Harley and Packman,
You are not racist for merely pointing out that the crime rate is higher with black males than white males. O.K. I reread Harley's Post and I guess he meant to ask whether she was married to a "black thug" and not a "black man", and Harley does talk about how he knows some good black people. The point is that when one makes a big deal of the fact that blacks are more likely to commit crimes and when one makes a joke about hoodies every time a black person commits a crime, it does appear to many of us that you are implying that black people tend to be criminals. This simply is a racist thought and overlooks the socioeconomic problems which are partly responsible for high crime in the black male community. It also is frustrating that when one can demonstrate a correlation between education and a healthy community, so many people who post here seem to think that education is not important. Of course, not everybody can or should go to college, and it is pointless to send people to "college" in name only when they could not master the remedial courses in the lower levels. It is a simple fact, however, that communities which do fight for higher standards in education and social services for youth do have a better quality of life. There are many blacks who are enjoying higher education and higher standards of living, but they tend to live in areas of the country which have better schools and less racism. WHile I do favor harsher sentences for crime, people are wrong that if they think that people who grow up in squalor or in a drug or criminal culture are going to care only about the sentences imposed. If your life is horrible anyway, crime may not seem to be such a bad option.

Drs01,
I agree that many of the kids "graduating" from the Little Rock schools are not college worthy. However, our world is getting more technological every day. If the education level of our citizens does not increase, we are going to take a backseat to the Chinese who are spending increasing sums of money to educate even the children of peasant farmers. Parents need to be held responsible if their children are not in school and do not do their work. Something Newt Gingrich said in the debates made much sense. We need more funding for children's homes aka orphanages. Children need a safe place to stay. While some of the foster parents are the salt of the earth, many of them are not. I have two adopted boys and I once attended an informational meeting for foster parenting; there simply are not enough good homes for children who need one. (I would love another child, but my husband and children don't want any so I just donate to children's charities. I used to volunteer for the CASA program--a good children's advocacy group.)

Harley,
I've just spent two hours at a community meeting at the local high school discussing all sorts of issues from school expansion plans to delaying the start of school. Before that, I had to cook dinner and help kids with homework. I am so sorry that I could not meet answer all your questions fully.
Short answer: Free birth control to prevent people who are not fit or ready to be parents from procreating. When parents are neglectful or abusive, you take the kids away. You cut the parental rights, and you offer them up for adoption. For kids who are not adoptable or whose biological parents may be able to parent them in the future, you put them in an acceptable foster home or a children's home. One of the classes which should be mandatory in schools is parenting, and part of the educational process should be to discourage young people from having children. We need a crackdown on drugs and a condition for probation is mandatory birth control. If you can keep the number of damaged people to a minimum, the community will be stronger.

Populist.....none of that will prevent kids from being in a family that is less than decent! You are talking not only a long, long, time frame to push kids into foster homes or children homes and then that lead to decent schools and decent recreational facilities but what about the psychological effects of the kids being taken away from their parents? How could that assure the kids become better off mentally?
Your answer will not make your fantasy solution happen in your life time. Doing something is better than doing nothing for sure but it's a long way from turning kids into decent adults.
Good try but you are still in fantasy thinking!

Harley,
Kids grow up faster than you think. Societies which nurture their children are healthier and happier than those which do not. It is much cheaper to pass out birth control and give free prenatal vitamins and prenatal care than it is to take care of unhealthy children for their entire lives. It is more fiscally sound to educate and care for children so that they grow into healthy adults and taxpayers than criminals. The whole prison system is an expensive enterprise.

Harley, Populist.....and others, I have a question for you. In my earlier comment I stated harsher punishment, no club med type prisions, hard labor. Would you not agree that if we had a fast track to jail, hard labor, people sentenced to death do not have what seems like a zillion appeals and decades of time before sentence is carried out, etc. That this would be an education to the parents to have the child to stay in school, get educated? Education is there for the taking, you just have to try. There is crime everywhere but not like we have in the US. Criminals have to many rights. There is no deterrant for crime. Our system must get tougher on crime, that is an education for our chlidren.

Notagain,
Charles Dickens wrote many novels describing the kind of life you find desirable. Many third world countries still have similar conditions. When life is miserable for many, there is still much crime because people have no hope for a better life. No, the cities and states in America which provide good social services and good schools have the best living conditions--with low unemployment, low crime, and many people living happy suburban lives going to youth sporting events, plays, and picnics. It really is a much happier life than those of debtors prisons and hangings. Yes, school is free, but that does not mean much to the children of drug addicts, the profoundly ignorant, or the dire poor. When schools are overcrowded, rotting, and full of bad teachers and unruly students, it is not a full educational opportunity.

If these deadbeats had a good family life, they wouldn't be doing these crimes. Most of these men have been raised by a single mother with no father-figure at all. Maybe if the FATHERS would stick around and take responsibility for their offspring and show them how to be good men, these kinds of crimes would lessen. I don't have the answers, but it seems to me that the black men never stay with the women they get pregnant.

Hey morebeer - "But I'm not advocating abortion for minorities only." OK, but you must accept that you are "advocating abortion" (At least you admit to being an abortion advocate, congrats.) knowing it kills little unborn black babies at a rate 7 times greater than little unborn white babies. In reality, your advocacy would be closely aligned with that of a white supremicist. "In fact I advocate for the legality of abortion....." I always thought medical doctors practiced "medicine" to save lives, not to snuff out the life of an unborn child? Would you mind forwarding the address of that "gestapo" you name? "Republicans want lower taxes and therefore poorer schools," This, morebeer, is a lie. There is NO statistical correlation between educational performance and per pupil spending. Factually, just the opposite is true in many cases and specifically with private schools. Republicans want education reform that can be done without raising taxes. "misanthropic Republicans to write things like, "two to the chest and one to the head" of teen thieves". Please know my statement isn't limited to teen theives. It includes anyone who I reasonably believe threatens the life of others or myself with no regard to race, age, sex, sexual orientation, religion, or level of stupidity.

Packman, I'm sure you see the holes in your own argument, you're just being antagonistic, and by calling me a white supremacist (you don't even know my race) you're just being ugly. Black and Hispanic women in the U.S. have more unintended pregnancies and therefore more abortions. Which means they are employing a legal right that you would deny them. Back when we were discussing Obama's tussle with Catholic institutions that didn't want to include contraception in their health plans, you were for the institutions. Which makes you pro-unintended pregnancy and therefore pro-abortion, if I apply your logic. How does that feel? Now, you called for "two to the chest, one to the head" of two specific teen thieves. Go ahead and squirm. It's apparent that your zest for human life knows bounds. Maafa 21 is propaganda. Black women have the second highest birth rate in the U.S., behind women of Mexican descent. I'm pro charter school, particularly schools like KIPP which are addressing the learning problem of poor kids from bad homes by keeping them in school for longer school days and longer school years. That's what it takes, and I agree that LRSD seem too bureaucratic to change to meet the challenges of its neighborhoods.

Maafa 21 is propaganda? You didn't see it did you Morebeer? Didn't think so! Because it sheds light on Planned Parenthood and the genocide of Black babies.

Populist has to be the most patient person ever. Why keep responding to a bunch of men who have no respect for it unless your opinion aligns with theirs. If you share or disagree, then here come the make believe educated questions and old west reasoning. It's simply a waste of time. Hell, these guys even attack the opinions of older folks like coralie - who at least have seen more history than these blowholes have even read. While I don't agree with everything she says, it doesn't mean I should be a total backwards jerkoff about it. Pretty pathetic. The outside world laughs at these posts. I applaud your persistence pop, but if you don't agree with these "men" in every aspect, then surely you must be a liberal or a communist. Why offer reason or a differing opinion? They despise spending on education which is a major emphasis of all your points so why waste your breath. I've pretty much thrown the towel on the usual conservative suspects and deemed it more productive to take up underwater basket weaving. Regardless, I sleep well at night knowing my vote cancels out one of theirs...

JJordan,
I know. Look at Harley's first post on this line in which he claims that this event is just "an every day happening in the lives of young black males." Then, if you accuse him of racism, he gets all offended. As bad as it seems now, I can tell you that things were worse in my youth. I was born just three years after the Central High Crisis. It was just horrific what some of the white people in Little Rock did to these young people. I also remember blacks being discriminated against in the work force when I used to work in Little Rock. I do not blame blacks who leave the state. I would not be surprised if that young man who just won teen Jeopardy gets his medical degree and never comes back.

You're probably right. I like to play the devil's advocate, too. Crime in LR concerns me. My wife was at the Clinton center last week. When she returned to her car, she put some stuff in her trunk and left down 3rd Street. After a block, she got a message that her trunk was ajar, so she stopped, got out and reset the trunk, and then noticed a man was moving rather quickly toward her from across the street. She was able to get in lock the doors and drive off, but it scared the bejesus out of her.

Hey morebeer - There are no holes in my argument to see, and I NEVER called you a white supremacist. Either show where I did or apologize immediately. I did ask if certain logic would precipitate such a conclusion? And there is no such thing as an "unintended pregnancy" if absitnence or constraceptives were not employed. Women who willingly have unprotected sex and become pregnant lost any claim to "intent" and such poor decision-making gives them no license to kill thier unborn child for mere convenience sake. "Back when we were discussing Obama's tussle with Catholic institutions that didn't want to include contraception in their health plans, you were for the institutions." So? Abstinence is free and condoms cheaper than a large drink at Burger King. As I've said before, I'm pro-personal responsibility. If that's too logical for you, so be it. And are you seriously equating the pure innocence of an unborn child to the heinous act of a violent criminal? Really? Seriously? Squirm? You got to be kidding???? As to taking you out back of the Flying Saucer for a little fun, it ain't gonna happen. I'm a lover, not a fighter. Can't you tell?????

Dear Populist.....are you really a lawyer?
If I pick up my ADG paper each morning and read an article written about a robbery, a theft or an assault that happened and the description of the criminal (s) is given and it states, criminal (s) was described as a black male about 18-30 years of age, about X tall, weighing about x lbs. and wearing dark clothing and a lot of times the black or dark hoodie, and if I point that out to someone, YOU are saying I am a racist? Then whoever wrote the article, the ADG who published the article and probably the policeman that addressed the crime are ALL RACIST too!
Are you really, really a lawyer that can make the kind of ignorant statements you make?
