LITTLE ROCK — Members of the Arkansas House of Representatives and Senate honored the Arkansas State football team on Wednesday for its accomplishments in the 2012 season.
Head coach Bryan Harsin, who is entering his first season as head coach, along with various other school officials, including Athletic Director Terry Mohajir and several players from last season's squad, were honored guests at the State Capitol.
Harsin and Mohajir, along with players David Oku, J.D. McKissic and Qushaun Lee, were given a standing ovation by both the House and Senate as Jonesboro Senator Paul Bookout awarded the group a framed copy of the resolution commending their 2012 season.
Defensive coordinator John Thompson, who served as interim head coach for the Red Wolves' 17-13 victory over No. 25 Kent State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl on Jan. 6, also attended the event.
Former head football coach Gus Malzahn resigned Dec. 4 to take the same position at Auburn.
In addition to being introduced before the House and Senate, the team was recognized for its back-to-back Sun Belt Conference championships, as well as its win in this year's GoDaddy.com Bowl. It was the team's second consecutive appearance in the bowl.
House Resolution 1011 and Senate Resolution 5 officially recognize the teams' success of the 2012 season.
