Benton home invasion suspect believed to be in Texas

Authorities are searching for a suspect in an early-morning home invasion that occurred Thursday.

Saline County sheriff's deputies responded to a call of a residential burglary at 12:13 a.m. at 11174 Interstate 30 in Benton, with victims at the scene saying they awoke to an unknown man in their house. The man confronted them, demanding money and other items then making the victims place the items in their car before he drove off in it. This all according to a news release from the Saline County sheriff's office.

A positive identification in a photo line-up revealed the suspect to be 41-year-old Derek Dione Wilkerson. Wilkerson is said to be out of Mesquite, Texas. He fled the scene in a 2004 Ford Mustang convertible with a white and tan top, license plate 416 RAM.

Wilkerson faces multiple charges, including two counts of residential burglary, aggravated assault, terroristic threatening, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, false imprisonment, breaking and entering and theft of property. The suspect is believed to already be in Texas, authorities said in the release.

Texas Law Enforcement Agencies and the United States Marshal Service are also assisting in the search for Wilkerson.
