Winter weather forces postponement of basketball tournaments

— Due to a severe winter-weather system that swept through parts of the state Wednesday night, several regional high school basketball tournaments are being delayed or postponed by the Arkansas Activities Association.

Six tournaments were affected in all, with five tournaments having their first rounds pushed back to Friday.

The Class 2A, North Region tournament will begin tomorrow at Sloan-Hendrix High School in Imboden.

In addition, the Class 1A tournaments at County Line High School in Branch (Region 1), Hillcrest High School in Strawberry (Region 2) and West Side Greers Ferry High School (Region 3) will also begin Friday. All tournaments had already been postponed to Thursday.

The Class 3A, Region 1 tournament at Paris High School will begin Thursday, with three of the four games being played. The girls' tournament kicks things off with Greenland vs. Danville tipping off at 4 p.m and Paris vs. West Fork starting at 7 p.m. The boys' games will start with Cedarville vs. Lamar at 5:30 p.m., while the Charleston vs. Green Forest game will be postponed until 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The Class 3A, Region 3 tournament at Hoxie High School will be postponed until Friday, as is the Class 4A, the East Region tournament at Heber Springs High School will also be delayed until Friday.
