LITTLE ROCK The United Steelworkers union is backing former Lt. Gov. Bill Halter in his 2014 gubernatorial bid.
The group said in a statement that it is endorsing a candidate earlier than it usually does because Halter, a Democrat, has "earn[ed] it."
"Bill has stood up time and again for the working people of Arkansas," United Steelworkers District 13 Director Mickey Breaux said in the statement. "He was against the Wall Street bailout in large part because there was no accountability written into it. He has always maintained that our trade agreements be fair to American workers, not just free for global corporations."
Halter is the only Democrat to formally declare his candidacy for governor, but several others are thought to be considering a run. On the Republican side, former U.S. Rep. Asa Hutchinson and businessman Curtis Coleman have announced bids.
United Steelworkers represent about 850,000 workers in industries including glass-making, mining, steel, oil, service and health care.

The union support is one big reason not to vote for Mr. Halter! There may be others but, this would be number 1 for me!

Interesting; they claim they are endorsing a candidiate "earlier than usual" because he has earned it. I think we know exactly what they are doing, the timing is impeccable

Insult people and then poke at them for defending themselves. Passive aggressive much? I'm tuning you out and moving on to my fortieth anniversary tomorrow. That's something you will probably never have.

Oh yes the old inquire is back. Apparently you can call people SOB's and ignorant but that isn't insulting anyone. You have spawned a new word for entry into the dictionary; pathypocritical. That would be a pathetic hypocritical, which describes you.

My Question is what are all these Christians doing to elevate these conditions?
Guess what 3 abortion bills, soon to be 4 gun bills

A union supporting a liberal demorat.....Who could have ever guessed?
Hey inquire - I'm interested to hear how you reconcile support for this union with your support for protecting the environment against the development of steel mills? Cups makes an excellent point that deserves a reasoned response.
Hey BillSmith - HB 87328 sponsored by the Republican caucus will be filed next week. It decreases all the desk sizes in public elementary schools to make it more dificult for fat kids to sit, and encourage them to stand and burn calories. So there, the Republicans are doing something to address the issues you noted......
Or you can do yourself a favor and go to the arkleg website to see all the bills filed by numerous Republicans targeted at economic development and school improvement. Remember ArKidsFirst? A health care law for kids enacted under the leadership of a Republican governor (Mike Huckabee). Question asked and answered. You're welcome.

Packman,
I am not sure of Inquire's position, but I am not anti-steel mill as much as I am anti-Koch and I also frown on public investment in private businesses. The government makes enough mistakes trying to run the government. We should leave private enterprise to the private sector. I would think you pro-business types would want somebody who has an MBA from Stanford and has experience serving on the boards of private companies. We have too few people in government who understand money and business.

Populist.... So you are finally admitting the top CEO Barack Hussein Obama MM MM MM doesn't understand money and finance? Some of us already knew that along time ago. The only thing he and his party and some Republicans know how to do is SPEND.

T6,
I think the President is highly intelligent and has a keen understanding of many topics. However, I do think that he needs to cut more. We should not be too tax heavy, and there is some fat to cut. We need more educators, nurses, and people building and repairing things and fewer bureaucrats in this country.

Just because I make fifty times more that you do,
doesn't mean I should be paying fifty times more that you in tax.......
Just because my money make me more money,
why should I have to pay tax on my income from my money..........
I'm just smarter that you...That is why I invest to have income and you work to have it
Taxes are for you little people not for the rich...That's why we have lobbist and you don't..
All that money we have inherited is just gods way of blessing us.....
I can say anything or be as meanspirited as I want as long as I use god to justify what I say..
I personally get to decide who is or is not a religious person, or is a true American Patriot...
That is just how we have set this up and don't try to change America now...
