FAYETTEVILLE Arkansas' freshmen continue to come through in a big way early this season.
Pitchers Trey Killian and Colin Poche combined to allow three hits in seven innings Sunday as the No. 1 Razorbacks completed a three-game sweep of Evansville with a 10-2 win at Baum Stadium.
Killian didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning in his first start on the mound. With a 3-0 lead, the right-hander gave up two runs in the frame before Poche came in to retire Michael Eckstein, stranding a runner.
After retiring all nine batters he faced last weekend, Killian retired the first 12 he faced Sunday. Poche also added to an impressive start to the year, adding 2 1/3 scoreless innings to his five shutout innings in a Tuesday win against New Orleans.
Jacob Mahan's solo home run extended Arkansas' lead to 4-2 in the sixth before the Razorbacks scored five more in the seventh. One day after failing to come through with timely hits and stranding 12 runners, Arkansas recorded a season-high 15 hits.
The Razorbacks (7-1) gave Killian some breathing room with a two-run first inning and extended the lead to 3-0 on a Jake Wise RBI single in the fourth. Wise, the catcher, finished with 3 RBIs.
Evansville starter Kyle Lloyd pitched six innings, allowing four runs on eight hits. The Purple Aces fell to 1-5 this season.
Arkansas will next play No. 20 Arizona State on Thursday in Surprise, Ariz.
