House speaker backs $150 million in tax cuts

— Arkansas House speaker Davy Carter is calling on lawmakers to support $150 million in tax cuts this session.

Carter, a Republican from Cabot, on Tuesday urged members of the House Revenue and Taxation Committee to begin work on competing tax cut proposals. Carter offered few details on the tax cut proposals that he’s backing but said he believes the state can afford to trim $150 million in spending.

Carter made the remarks as he appeared before three separate House panels to mark what he called the “halftime” of the legislative session.
