Obama, top lawmakers to meet Friday on budget cuts

By The Associated Press

This article was published February 27, 2013 at 12:27 p.m.

— The White House conceded Wednesday that efforts to avoid automatic budget cuts are unlikely to succeed before they kick in and is initiating new talks with congressional leaders to confront seemingly intractable tax-and-spend issues.

President Barack Obama will meet at the White House on Friday with the bipartisan leaders in the House and Senate, several hours after the deadline for averting the cuts, known in Washington-speak as a “sequester,” have taken effect.

This would put the White House and Congress in the position of essentially looking past the cuts to the next looming fiscal encounter: A March 27 deadline to continue government operations or force a government shutdown.

White House spokesman Jay Carney said the that the White House talks, which were arranged Tuesday, are designed to be a “constructive discussion” about how to keep the cuts from having harmful consequences. Obama has been calling for a mix of spending cuts and tax increases to achieve deficit reduction goals.

The White House has warned that the $85 billion in cuts could affect everything from commercial flights to classrooms and meat inspections. The cuts would slash domestic and defense spending, leading to forced unpaid days off for hundreds of thousands of government workers.

For weeks Obama has been telling us IF the Obamaquester happens it will shut down life as we know it. NOW he says if it happens, it won't be felt for months down the road. WHY then were criminal illegal aliens released from prison in Jan Brewer's state? Janet Napolitano should have ben fired over that one. WHY was the Aircraft carrier brought back from the Persian Gulf? Because of budget constraints? Maybe if Obama wasn't trying to line the pockets of his buddies and quit requiring our military use Bio fuels for his clean energy, (at an exorbitant cost per gal), our budget would be able to keep this carrier in the Persian Gulf.
He thought the Republicans would cave and his scare tactics would put pressure on them. ALL the tactics from the President and the Demwits were to SCARE people. Some braindead Demwit, named Maxine Waters said 170 million jobs will be lost? REALLY? You Demwits should be sooooo proud of her for that one!!
Obama doesn't want to cut spending. He has to have our money to buy votes. He got his tax increase from the Republicans NOW it's time for SPENDING CUTS. According to factcheck. org, Obama lied and his party lied when they touted he's already cut 2.5 trillion in deficit spending. Obama LIED when he said Obamacare wouldn't add to the deficit. It will add 6.5 TRILLION to the deficit according to the GAO. Keep believing the politicans sheeple, they wouldn't lie to us. EVER!
