Meeting set on UAPB chancellor nominee

The University of Arkansas System has set a telephone conference for Thursday to discuss to consider the appointment of Laurence Alexander as chancellor at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

The teleconference will be held 4:30 p.m., according to a UA System statement.

Alexander is currently the associate dean of the graduate school and director of the Office of Minority Programs at the University of Florida. He was nominated Monday to be the next UAPB chancellor.

Upon approval from the board, the system said, Alexander will begin his tenure by July 1, succeeding Calvin Johnson, the interim chancellor since April.

Alexander is a New Orleans native, as is his wife, Veronica. They have three sons, named Brandon, David and Tyler.
