Pryor, Boozman praise bipartisan fiscal cliff deal

— Both Arkansas senators voted in favor of legislation to avoid the fiscal cliff of across-the-board tax increases and major spending cuts to the Pentagon and domestic agencies.

The Senate approved the legislation by an 89-8 vote early Tuesday. The measure now heads to the House.

Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor said he’s pleased Democrats and Republicans were able to reach a compromise. He said not everyone agrees with the details of the plan but that’s “the art of compromise and consensus building.”

Republican Sen. John Boozman said he’s proud lawmakers were able to reach an agreement “to prevent the largest tax hike in American history.” He hailed the bipartisan plan but said there was no reason lawmakers should wait until the last minute to deal with policy issues.
