LR pastor, granddaughter killed in New Year's Day crash

— Two people are dead after a multi-vehicle accident Tuesday night on Interstate 30.

David Harris, a pastor at Oak Park Baptist Church, and his granddaughter died from their injuries in the 8:30 p.m. crash on Interstate 30 near Scott Hamilton Drive in Little Rock, the church announced in a news release.

"Harris, 64, and his granddaughter have gone to be with the Lord due to complications of the auto accident," the release states.

Several members of Harris' family were also treated for injuries. Their conditions are unknown.

Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said the investigation is ongoing. A driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident was questioned and has submitted a blood sample for a toxicology test that has been sent to the State Crime Lab.

Harris was the pastor at Oak Park for more than 35 years, the church said.

"Countless people were lead to be saved through his ministry. The church has requested prayers for both Harris’ family and the Oak Park Baptist church community during this time," it said.
