— A boy was killed and another child hurt after a vehicle hit a tree Wednesday night in Mississippi County, authorities said.

Arkansas State Police say Amber J. Dobbins, 21, was driving a 2011 Ford north on Arkansas 61 south of Arkansas 14 in Wilson when the vehicle veered across the opposing lanes and went off the road. It then struck a tree.

According to a preliminary report, 3-year-old Ayden B. Shaw died from injuries suffered in the crash. Dobbins and another child passenger, 1-year-old Aubrey J. Dobbins, were both hospitalized with unspecified injuries.

Police say the wreck happened in clear, dry conditions.

It marked the fifth fatality on Arkansas roads so far this year after 545 last year, according to preliminary figures.
