Boehner to serve second term as House speaker

— The Senate and House ushered in a new Congress on Thursday.

The 113th Congress convened at 11 a.m. CST, the constitutionally mandated time. Pomp and pageantry began simultaneously on either side of the Capitol.

In the Senate, Vice President Joe Biden joined his former colleagues to swear in the newest members as well as those who won another term in November.

In the House, lawmakers re-elected embattled Republican John Boehner as speaker.

The Ohio lawmaker won a second, two-year term as leader with 220 votes, losing just a handful of votes in the Republican-controlled chamber.

Boehner will swear in the members in the afternoon.

Let's hope the new Congress will do a better job than the last one! Someone PLEASE remind these folks that they have responsibilities to the country to perform as part of their constitutional duties. Elections are over, now is the time to put the country first and find compromises that will fill vacant judicial positions, pay the bills, and tighten the country's economic belt. Time to get to work!
