LITTLE ROCK Authorities say an infant is the third fatality in a pair of crashes that occurred on New Year's Day on Interstate 30 in Little Rock.
Arkansas State Police spokesman Bill Sadler said 2-month-old Robert Cecola Jr. was a passenger in a 2002 Ford that was struck by a 1999 Chevy near the Scott Hamilton Road exit. It happened about 8:20 p.m.
Cecola died from his injuries.
After hitting the Ford, the 1999 Chevy was then involved in a collision in the same area with a 2012 Toyota, Sadler said. Longtime Little Rock pastor David Harris, 64, and his granddaughter, Maci Harris, 10, both of Little Rock, were killed in that crash, police said.
The Chevy driver is identified in police reports as Kareame Cotton, 37, of North Little Rock. He suffered unspecified injuries in the wrecks, as did two passengers in his vehicle. One of them is listed as Cotton's 10-year-old son.
The Toyota driver and a 10-year-old passenger in that vehicle were also injured.
Sadler said charges may be filed.
"State Troopers of the Highway Patrol Division and Special Agents of the Criminal Investigation Division are working closely with the prosecuting attorney's office to prepare a case which will be presented to consider the possibility of criminal charges," Sadler said in a statement.
