Hot Springs to print Calvin Borel trading card

By The Associated Press

— Jockey Calvin Borel is approaching his 5,000th victory and Hot Springs is marking the event by putting his image on a trading card.

Borel is to make an appearance Monday at a Little Rock printing company to witness the card being printed.

Live thoroughbred racing begins Friday at Oaklawn on Jan. 11, and Borel just notched his 4,999th victory in Louisiana. He’s expected to reach 5,000 wins as soon as opening day in Hot Springs.

Hot Springs’ tourism office has issued a number of trading cards over the years. Some depict former President Bill Clinton.

The agency printed cards showing prominent fillies Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta when the horses were supposed to race in 2010, though only Zenyatta made it to the starting gate.
